Gérald Montes, a fine jewellery designer and gem-setter, arrived in Switzerland from his native Spain for a language course to learn French. What was meant to be just a temporary stay became the starting point for a true vocation. Enamoured with Switzerland and its watchmaking expertise, he discovered a deep passion for gem-setting whilst completing his apprenticeship in jewellery-making.

Having subsequently trained in the Vallée de Joux, he developed a rare standard of excellence, fuelled by horological precision, meticulous craftsmanship and a love of handcrafted work. Based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Gérald Montes has tackled major technical challenges, notably the setting of precious stones on steel – a feat hailed as a world first in the world of watchmaking.

In his workshop, each creation emerges from a dialogue between the gemstone, the metal, the craftsman’s hand and the client’s emotions.
